Corning Cable Systems, formerly known as Siecor, dates back to 1977 when an equity venture was established by Corning Incorporated and Siemens. The name was changed to Corning Cable Systems on June 1, 2000, reflecting Corning’s purchase of the balance of Siecor in January, 2000. Siecor manufactured fiber optic and copper communications products for voice, data and video applications, including Fusion Spilcers and OTDRs. The company was a major supplier for telephone companies, cable television operating companies, customer premises communications, intelligent vehicle transportation systems and utility applications. Siecor was the largest manufacturer of fiber optic cable in the Unites States.
