In order to maximize the power transfer from your amplifier to your load, you need to ensure that the impedance of both the source and the load are the same. If you know what your impedance is, you can provide a matching transformer to transform the 50 ohm impedance of the amplifier to match the impedance of your load. However, if you are unsure of your impedance or are looking for a general research tool in this area, a switchable transformer is very useful.

E&I's Locked-On series of switchable impedance transformers provides the ability to simply switch from 50 ohms to multiple taps, to drive higher or lower impedances. The top range models provide a read back to easily verify that you have "locked-on" to the correct match and allow you to do this while delivering RF power.
